Abstract

Considering the growing anti-LGBTI+ movement and its consequences in education, this article aims to analyze the laws of non-promotion of homosexuality in the United States that became known as No Promo Homo Laws. Based on a post-structuralist framework, it investigates the conditions that enabled the growth of anti-LGBTI+ discourses. To this end, the history of No Promo Homo Laws and the text of the law of the states of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, South Carolina, Arizona, North Carolina, and Utah are presented. It is concluded that analyzing anti-LGBTI+ laws in other countries is extremely important for gender studies, since this anti-gender movement has not only spread in Brazil, but has gained a global reach.
