The legislative protection of groundwaters in the European Union

Abstract

Within the measures established by the Diretiva Marco de Águas da União Européia, the necessity of protecting the groundwaters against contamination was incorporated to it. The Commition proposal for the groundwaters’ protection tends to radically improve the underground quality of the European Union. It provides the Member States the obligation of monitoring, evaluating, and complying with certain objectives of calamity, as well as investing in the tendencies of contamination of this water.
