The journal was created in 1992. Its first issue was published in June 1992. Its Internal Regulations were approved in July 1992, with periodic updates, and its latest version was approved in 2021.

Objectives and Scope
Texto & Contexto Enfermagem is a journal of international circulation. In open access format, it publishes technical-scientific articles related to the Health area, especially Nursing, written in Portuguese, English or Spanish, with one of those versions mandatorily in English.
The journal is affiliated with the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC) and International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE)

Its abbreviated title Texto Contexto Enferm should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references.
Mission
To disseminate the production of scientific and technological knowledge in health and nursing, emphasizing the quality of research and the improvement of Health Sciences.
