Altruistic behavior in children aged two to five years

Abstract

The altruistic behavior, studied under different labels is a behavior of moral nature essential for the human relations maintenance, is associated with adequate socioemotional development and is a potential inhibitor of antisocial behavior. This is extremely relevant, especially in childhood since most moral behaviors begin at this stage. This study aimed to investigate the verbal report of children aged from 2 to 5 years in the face of problem situations that have brought opportunities for the altruistic behaviors expression. Additionally, the perception of parents and teachers about the child's possible choices was investigated. The results showed that more than half of the children indicated altruistic responses appropriate to the problem situation in question. This indicates that from an early age children are sensitive to the need of the others, and make it possible to reflect on the various ways in which parents and teachers as reference figures can plan opportunities for the effective exercise of altruism.

Psicóloga graduada pela Faculdade Evangélica do Paraná (FEPAR), com mestrado em Educação pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) na linha de pesquisa em Cognição, Aprendizagem e Desenvolvimento Humano, e especialização em Psicopedagogia Institucional e Clínica (em andamento) pela Universidade Cândido Mendes (UCAM). Atua como psicóloga na área clínica, educacional e social. Desenvolve trabalhos essencialmente de acordo com as seguintes temáticas: prevenção ao abuso sexual infantil com foco na aquisição de repertório autoprotetivo, comportamento moral, em especial altruísmo infantil, acompanhamento nutricional, práticas educativas e habilidades sociais.

Suzane Schmidlin Lohr, Universidade Federal do Paraná - UFPR

Possui graduação em Psicologia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (1980), mestrado em Psicologia Clínica pela Universidade de São Paulo (1992), doutorado em Psicologia Clínica pela Universidade de São Paulo (1998) e pós-doutorado em Psicologia clínica pela Universidade de São Paulo com estágio na Universidade de Lisboa (2017). Coordenou o curso de Psicologia da UFPR e o curso de Psicologia da Universidade Positivo. Orientou trabalhos no mestrado em Psicologia e no mestrado em educação da UFPR. Foi vice-chefe do departamento de teorias e fundamentos da educação da UFPR. Aposentou na UFPR como professora associada. Atua em consultório particular e em cursos de pós-graduação em nível de especialização . Tem experiência na área de Psicologia em clínica, saúde e educação e atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: habilidades sociais, educação, prevenção psicológica, terapia comportamental e interação pais-filhos.
