This study analyzes the effects of skin color and age on racial identity and the perception of social value of black and white people in Brazilian children. Racial identity was examined by emotional assessment, associated with the child racial belonging, and the perception of social value of groups through the extent to which children assess that other people like black and white people. Participated in the study 136 white, brown and black children, with ages ranging from 6 to 11 years and living in two cities in the northeast of Brazil. The main results indicate that brown and black children of 6 and 7 years of age are those who least like to be black and those who most prefer to belong to the group of whites; insofar white children at all ages like to be white and prefer to belong to their own racial group. Regarding the perception of social value, the results show that white, brown and black children, in an undifferentiated way, ranging the ages of 6 to 11 years, evaluate the white group as the most socially valued. The results are analyzed and discussed in the light of the theory of social identity and racism in childhood.
