Is it Possible to Teach Entrepreneurship? Comparative Analysis with Brazilian Students

Abstract

Is it possible to teach someone to become an entrepreneur? It is this question that motivated this field survey in a Brazilian entrepreneurial training high school. A quantitative survey was carried out with a population of 313 students of the chosen school, being that 175 students were freshmen and 138 graduates. It was possible to observe that the freshmen and the graduate students confirm that the education and training that they received in the school, did contribute to become entrepreneurs, although a few divergences were described.  The students considered that innovating capacity, dealing with risks and gain professional maturity was important factors to achieve success within organizations or businesses. It was suggested new study comparing schools that do not have, as also to carry out studies in other countries with different cultural characteristics.

Professora e pesquisadora dos Programas Stricto Sensu de Administração e Administração de sistemas de informação e gestão do conhecimento da Universidade FUMEC. Coordena subprojeto do PROADM/CAPES em Belo Horizonte que foca novas tecnologias em práticas de ensino na administração. Coordena o Grupo de Pesquisa CNPq GEIQE sobre gestão da inovação, qualidade e empreendedorismo. Participa de grupos de pesquisa sobre inovação, tecnologias e redes. Seu interesse de pesquisa está relacionado à linha de pesquisa Estratégia em Organizações e Comportamento Organizacional e aos temas: inovação, tecnologia, sistemas de informação, estratégia e competitividade. É coordenadora do tema 7 - Política e Gestão Estratégica de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação Relações governo-universidade-empresa da área de Gestão de ciência, tecnologia e inovação da ANPAD.

Professor da Universidade FUMEC, ministra disciplinas em cursos de Graduação, Mestrado e Doutorado em Adminsitração, além de orientar e realizar pesquisas nas linhas de pesquisa Estratégia e Tecnologias em Marketing e Estratégia em Organizações e Comportamento Organizacional. Tem experiência na área de Administração, com ênfase em Mercadologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: desempenho, estratégia corporativa, estratégia competitiva, competição e partial least squares.
