About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The journal Alexandria is a scholarly publication of the Graduate Program in Science and Technology Education at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Its primary aim is to disseminate high-quality research in the fields of science and mathematics education.
The journal accepts original articles aimed at the development of citizenship and the theory and practice that characterize science teaching. This includes all levels and stages of education, both formal and non-formal, as well as initial and continuing teacher education.
Alexandria is a peer-reviewed journal, registered under ISSN 1982-5153, published exclusively online, with free and open access to the full text, in order to allow the rapid and widespread dissemination of the knowledge it publishes.
Journal History
Alexandria: Journal of Education in Science and Technology is a journal of the Graduate Program in Science and Technology Education at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). The first issue of the journal was published in 2008.
The journal’s first Editor-in-Chief was Professor Arden Zylbersztajn, who held this position until mid-2014. During the same period, Professor Nadir Ferrari served as Associate Editor on the editorial team. In the 2014 Qualis Capes evaluation, Alexandria received the B1 ranking in the field of Education, and in 2016, it was upgraded to the A2 ranking.
Regarding its publication frequency, Alexandria was a quarterly journal (three issues per year) until 2010. Since 2011, it has been published biannually (two issues per year), with publications in May and November. Starting in 2024, the journal adopted a continuous publication model.
The cover image is a drawing by the painter, poet and short story writer Rodrigo de Haro, who kindly authorized its use. Inspired by the painting Saint Catherine of Alexandria, painted in 1598 by Caravaggio, the drawing was published in the book Mistérios de Santa Catarina [Mysteries of Santa Catarina] (Athanor, Florianopolis, 1992).
