Abstract

Este artigo revisa o desenvolvimento histórico do campo da saúde mental, tomando como base o pensamento em psiquiatria, destacando as vertentes paradigmáticas biomédica e psicodinâmica e os movimentos sociais profissionais, particularmente a medicina social e o higienismo, que vieram a conformar o quadro teórico-conceitual em que se baseia a psiquiatria contemporânea. ABSTRACT The article reviews the theoretical and conceptual bases of modern psychiatric thought, highlighting the biomedical and psychodynamic paradigms, and the social and professional movements of change that influenced contemporary psychiatry, especially social medicine and higienism, who came to sette the theoretical and conceptual scenario that underlies contemporary psichiatry.
