Interculturality, internationalization, and intercomprehension: How are they related?

Felipe Furtado Guimarães, Kyria Rebeca Finardi

Abstract

This article reviews the concepts of interculturality and internationalization of higher education discussing the relationship between them and the additional languages, making some considerations about the use of an additional teaching-learning-language approach known as the intercomprehension approach. The review made here concludes that interculturality, internationalization and the intercomprehension approach are related to the extent to which both interculturality and intercomprehension can serve to mitigate the negative effects of internationalization, such as strengthening the hegemony of English as an academic lingua franca
