About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Ilha do Desterro Magazine publishes, since 1979, unpublished articles and reviews in the areas of English Language, Literature and Cultural Studies. Ilha do Desterro is a journal of the Graduate Program in English: Linguistic and Literary Studies at UFSC, with publication in continuous flow from January 2024. Its main mission is to circulate the results of academic research in the areas of English, Literature and Cultural Studies.

All articles, reviews and interviews received are analyzed first by the editorial team. Once approved, they are submitted to two referees, who, through a blind evaluation (peer view), will give their final evaluation on the article, review or interview. Articles, reviews and interviews will only be approved on condition that they are within the scope of the journal or within the theme proposed for the dossiers.

Thematic issues will only be organized by invited editors.

Open Science

Ilha do Desterro is aligned with open science practices and recommends the citation and referencing of data, program codes or other material used or generated during the research work.

Peer Review Process

The originals of articles, interviews and reviews submitted to the journal are forwarded to the editorial team or guest editors for a preliminary analysis, which will consider the general editorial line or theme of the dossier. After this preliminary evaluation, the article or review must be sent incognito to the appreciation of two reviewers who are members of the Editorial Committee, Advisory Board or “ad hoc” consultants, depending on the theme of the article (DOUBLE BLIND REVIEW). If there is disagreement regarding the opinions, the article/review/interview will be sent to a third reviewer. The average period between the submission of the work and its publication is 8 weeks.
The originals may be:

- Accepted in full, without restrictions; - Accepted in full, with some changes; or,

- Rejected. When there is a need for changes referring only to grammatical, spelling and normative aspects, with a view to maintaining the homogeneity of the publication, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to make the necessary changes, respecting the author's style. In other cases, the author will reformulate the text as requested by the Commission.

Ilha do Desterro is not responsible for or endorses the opinions expressed by the authors of the texts published therein, emphasizing that the opinions are their sole responsibility.

All communication with the journal must be made via email (ilhadodesterro@gmail.com) or via the website http://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/index.
