Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Submissions of articles/reviews/interviews by authors who have already published in a consecutive issue of the journal will not be accepted.
  • It won't be accepted submission, from each author or group of authors, of more than one article, review or interview for the same volume/number.
  • Only the first four articles/reviews/interviews, per session, submitted by authors from UFSC will be forwarded for peer review, following recommendations from CAPES and SCIELO regarding endogeny (maximum number of texts from this institution that should be published in each volume).
  • When submitting articles or reviews, authors must indicate the names of five
possible peer reviewers. Three of these reviewers should be from international
institutions (instead of Brazilian institutions). These are only suggestions. The
editorial team may or may not select one of the indicated referees (see also the
guidelines for the “Letter to the Editors.”)
  • When submitting articles or reviews, authors must include a “Letter to the Editors,” in which they will state: the date of their last publication in the journal, the main objective of the article, the reason why it has been submitted for a specific issue of the journal, the article’s main contribution to its area of studies or to academic debates in Language, Literature or Cultural Studies in an Anglophone context, the name of five possible peer reviewers (see above specifications).
  • For submissions of translations or commented translations, it will be the responsibility of the translators to obtain reproduction rights.
  • Papers in which at least one of the authors has a doctorate are accepted. The journal accepts articles signed by doctoral students, as unique authors, as long as the advisor declares that the research in question did not have his collaboration. In case of collaboration, the supervisor must be one of the authors. Master students and masters can submit articles with the proviso that they are co-authors with doctoral researchers. The editorial board understands that the supervision of students must be explicit, and should not be taken as co-authorship. Articles derived from master's or doctoral research must include the name of the advisor in a footnote, and not as a co-author. An exception is made for reviews, in which reviews of doctoral students are allowed.
  • The article, review or interview must be unpublished, must not have been published in preprint format, and must not be under consideration for publication in another journal. Only texts that are within the theme of the dossier and/or the scope of the journal will be accepted.
  • The texts may be presented in Portuguese or English.
  • Articles and interviews must have up to 9 (nine) thousand words (approximately 25 pages, A4 paper), including bibliographic references, notes and tables. Reviews should have up to 2 (two) thousand words (approximately 8 pages). The interviews in Portuguese must also have the translated version of the title into English.
  • Articles must be accompanied by a summary and abstract (maximum 10 lines) and keywords (maximum 5) in Portuguese and in English, for articles in Portuguese and in English only, for articles in English, and the title must also be translated into English. The files for submission are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (as long as it does not exceed 2MB).
  • The articles in English follow the MLA - Modern Language Association's style standards and bibliographic requirements for literature articles, and APA for linguistics articles. Articles in Portuguese must follow the ABNT rules.
  • In the case of insertion of images (photos, prints, pictures, etc.), the authors will be responsible for forwarding the procedures regarding the reproduction rights.
  • There should be no identification of the author (s) in the body of the text, to guarantee anonymity in the evaluation process.

  1. The texts should be typed with the following configuration: single space, size 12, Times News Roman font, paper size A4, without paragraph markings.
  2. The first page should start with the header, containing the title of the text and its translation into the English language (if in Portuguese), Interlinear space should be left blank between the title and its translation into the English language (if it is in Portuguese). There should be spacing between all section headings and text.

  5. The citations in the text should be written according to the stylistic pattern of each area: For texts written in English: Literature - MLA (8th edition), Linguistics – APA (6th edition); for texts written in Portuguese - ABNT;
  6. The bibliography list should contain only references that have been quoted in the body of the text (not in footnotes or endnotes), and for MLA (8thedition) format it is necessary to include the date of the publication in its first appearance in the text; the aforementioned norms are required due to Scielo standards of indexation.
