A importância do inventário vocálico: avaliando o uso de pistas acústicas na percepção da L2

Resumo

Para examinar se o tamanho do inventário de vogais L1 poderia ser um fator contribuinte para o uso de pistas temporais na percepção de vogais L2, este estudo avaliou a percepção de inglês / i-? / por 66 alunos de quatro L1s diferentes: dinamarquês, português, catalão e russo . Os alunos do L2 realizaram uma tarefa de identificação de escolha forçada contendo estímulos naturais e de duração manipulada. Os achados sugerem que a dependência excessiva dos participantes em pistas de duração parece estar parcialmente relacionada ao tamanho do inventário da vogal L1. Os participantes com o maior inventário de vogais L1 (dinamarquês) demonstraram a percepção da vogal mais nativa e os participantes com o menor inventário de vogais L1 (russo) dependeram demais das sugestões de duração mais do que os outros alunos. Curiosamente, os participantes com inventários de vogais L1 bastante comparáveis (português e catalão) realizaram de forma semelhante.
