This study aims to analyze the convergence between mega-journals and altmetrics. It is a theoretical reflection based on bibliographical research that systematizes the correlation regarding the characteristics that involve mega-journals (publication volume, thematic range, flexible peer review, processing rate and limitations of the traditional periodicals) and Altmetrics (support in article selection, post publication review, impact measure, tool types, and limitations of traditional metrics). Altmetrics may be the most suitable metric to verify the effectiveness of mega-journals, because it is aligned with the main characteristics of this dissemination channel.
