In this paper, we have three different aims. We hold that unrestricted freedom of speech is compatible with ridiculing restrictions in certain situations, particularly when minorities are ridiculed. The main argument is that ridicule prohibition or punishment in the relevant cases does not entail restriction to freedom of expression, but just restriction to how ridicule is made. Second, we intend to show that this restriction is compatible with Mill's arguments for freedom of speech. Finally, we hold that there is, at least, one consequentialist argument in favour of this kind of restriction. We will argue that our perspective is immune to Dworkin’s defence of freedom of ridiculing.
