Abstract

The making of journalism, specially the profession of journalist, is in the col¬lective imagination as a series of stereotypes and classifications. This paper aims to present a first draft of the journalist’s social image, through the de¬scriptions provided by the very field, as the result of a self-definition: the journalists by themselves. According to the social representations’ concept, this paper seeks to understand not only how journalists see and interpret themselves, but also whether and how they portray the dualities present in the modus operandi of the activity.
