The article conducts a comprehensive theoretical review of solutions journalism, aiming to address its origins, evolution, and conceptual gaps. Starting from the first academic mentions in the 1990s, the article explores the consolidation of the term through initiatives such as the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) and its relationship with constructive journalism and positive psychology. It also discusses the essential characteristics of this approach, such as its focus on evidence-based responses, diversification of sources, and journalistic rigor. Additionally, the article highlights criticisms of the model, including its potential instrumentalization by marketing discourses and the practical challenges faced by newsrooms, such as lack of time and resources. Finally, it presents reflections on the potential of solutions journalism while acknowledging the inherent complexities in its implementation across different global contexts.
