Abstract

Journalism scholarship was institutionalized at the beginning of the XX century by the university establishment in the United States of America. However, its roots were fixed at the European territory, mainly in Germany, Switzerland and France, between the XVII and the XIX centuries. The aim of this paper is to rescue the chronological lineage of Journalism Education, focusing the impact of these pioneer projects on Brazil. It intends to explore how the foreign patterns of Journalism Education influenced the newsmen leaders recognized later on as the founding fathers of the Brazilian Press Association. They launched a national campaign in order to guarantee Higher Education to young people that had vocation to be professional journalists.
