An intersectional feminist look to subvert historical invisibilities

The struggle of social groups for representativeness emerges in the discussion about the media as a modern apparatus of symbolic production and its influence in the construction of representations on the world. Gabrielle Bittelbrun, in the book Colors and Contours - Gender and Race in women's magazines of the 21st century, analyzes how gender and race articulate and reflect on visibilities and erasures in the construction of what it is to be women in contemporary discourses and images. Against the stereotypes, the feminist perspective has offered possibilities to break with an excluding model still reproduced in journalistic productions.References
