Brazil: fascism or neo-slavery?

Abstract

The article aims to discuss the pertinence of the concept of “fascism” in reference to the current Brazilian government. The reflection follows the theoretical-methodological path of  which two of the greatest Italian intellectuals of the early 20th century proposed in their respective analyzes of fascism, namely Piero Gobetti and Antonio Gramsci, also serving as a reference to Norberto Bobbio's reports on his personal experience in relation to this regime. From this door of access to the problem, the considerations on the possibility of naming the current government and the Brazilian State as "fascists" are presented. The conclusion of the study is that the current social relations in Brazil respond to the historical development of an uninterrupted reproduction of subordination relations from slavery, and not to a particular form of fascism or fascistization. Methodologically, the perspective of “integral history” is assumed. In terms of tools for analysis, the study uses bibliographic material.
