In modern life, the city is provoking news. Roughly, in the small town, to resume the Georg Simmel discussions (1979), the pace of life flows more slowly, more evenly. In the metropolis, images, sounds, smells trigger a sensory stream, resulting in fragments, flashes, mosaics. This article discusses some narratives written by Mário de Sá-Carneiro, the characters, and how transform (and form) with the city ? from the experiences possible through it. If Paris caused them life, sensitivity and feelings involving them as if they were drunk, insomniacs under narcotic effect as if by symbiosis: “Paris! Paris! Orgiastic and solemn, monumental and futile ...” (SÁ-CARNEIRO, 2007, p. 237), to be in this great city, alone, was like to be always accompanied by a lover, a city-lover. This is where the artist, as an exemplary sufferer emerges, feels, volatilizes.
