Abstract

The main purpose of this researchis to identify social representationsof elementary physical educationteachers of public schools in Rio deJaneiro city. In the first moment wehave made a panoramic view aboutphysical education history as wellas a revision of the concept of socialrepresentation. We applied an openedquestioner with 13 questions to16 elementary teachers from publicschools of Rio de Janeiro city abouthow they think their practicesand how they embassy their workand their intervention on reality.Analyzing the discourses of the teachers,in a perspective of Orlandi,we have been saw that they think about their selves as educators aswell as we can identify some contradictionsbetween their actionsand their theoretical reflexions, forexample, they see their practicesas essentially based on Psychomotricity,but say, at the same time,that their work is conducted to theintegral formation of the student.
