Leisure at Ilê Aiyê: inspirations from the post-abolition black movement

Abstract

This article discusses the influences of leisure practices on post-abolition black associations and associations on politicization and the creation of resistant entities. We evaluate how the forms of leisure may have contributed to the growth of the masses of anti-racist movements, creating together opportunities for professionalization and artistic-political action. It starts, methodologically, from a bibliographic study that investigated from the movements of men of color to the TEN, Theater Experimental do Negro, from Abdias do Nascimento to the present day with organizations such as the Ilê Aiyê Carnival Block Association.
