Abstract

This paper discusses the controversial question about the fundamentai human right of young people with homosexual tendency to have their sexual orientation respected. It starts with some reflections about the different meaning of the word sex, and then discusses the basic principies of Anthropology of Sexuality; the place of homosexuality in the continuum of sexual orientation; the main myths and trues about homosexualityand the different ways of homosexuallifestyle in Brazil. We finish with some ideas about how a young man or woman can "coming out" with less personal and familiar conflicts.

Graduação em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade de São Paulo (1968), mestrado em Etnologia pela Universite de Paris IV (Paris-Sorbonne) (1971), doutorado em Antropologia pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1975) .
