The text discusses some proposals aiming changes in the Italian higher education system. These proposals are ready to be put forth in the first year of the new century. The text tries to call the reader’s attention to the radical character of these reforms since they deeply modify the old academic structures, always resistant to any substantive change. Finally, it examines Italian university in the realm of European universities.
