Scientific disclosure texts: analysis and characterization for use in mathematics teaching

Using Popular Science Texts Communication (PST) in formal education has been discussed by researchers from the field of education in science. Recent studies demonstrate the potential use of such texts to develop skills in students education. In this paper, we selected, analyzed and characterized PTS published in Ciência Hoje magazine, Mundo de Ciência section, related to the field of Mathematics, in the 2012 to 2013 period, with a view to discussion of the characteristics of these texts able to assist teachers in using it as a teaching resource in the teaching of Mathematics. Most TDC (67%) shows possible aspect of being related to the Transversal Themes proposed in the National Curriculum Parameters in an integrated manner to teaching Mathematics. The analyzed material is available and can be favorable for teachers who choose to use in the classroom.
