In this paper we present an analysis of the Mathematics Curriculum of the São Paulo State, High School, in force since 2008, in order to discuss process of elaboration and development of the Curriculum, its theoretical presuppositions and the view of Mathematics and Mathematics teaching that underlie the document. For that, we used document analysis methodology. Through our analysis, it is possible to point out that in the curriculum it is not clear what is meant by skills and competences, that the lack of teacher support materials is an obstacle to the effective implementation of curriculum assumptions and that while the curriculum advocates the teacher's freedom to choose methodological approaches, classroom material (Student Notebook/Teacher Notebook) limits teachers' work options.
