The present article seeks to demonstrate how the theory of realism in international relations leads the United States of America to dominate existing multilateral structures and regional trade agreements, with the goal of obtaining trade advantages and policies which allow complete economic hegemony. We particularly attempt to demonstrate that the initiative of the Free Trade Area of the Americas, as an instrument of North American imperialist action, would be, from an economic standpoint, a disaster for the countries which integrate the Mercosur, especially for Brazil.Downloads
