The general purpose of this paper is to examine the theoretical structure of the Environmental State of Law and the particularcharacter of an environmental juridical hermeneutics, both aiming at minimizing the effects of the environmental crisis. The conclusion is that interpretation principles used at environmental hermeneutics are not able to offer singular and ultimate answers, because meaning is inexhaustible, as philosophical hermeneutics
demonstrates. Even if legal professionals use all the relevant principles indicated, there will always be room for subjectivity and discretion.
