Mental Suffering and Human Person Dignity: the Challenges of Psychiatric Reform in Brazil

The research investigates the psychiatric reform in Brazil and the challenges for its implementation, so that initially it is dedicated to the understanding of mental suffering seeking the historical account of the therapies to confront the issue. Later, the development of national legislation for the protection of mentally ill people is identified, and finally the research investigates the challenges of psychiatric reform characterized by the gradual extinction of asylums and psychiatric hospitals, by offering care and attention to the family and society, through the assistance offered by the Psychosocial Care Centers.Downloads
