Educational interpreting as a field research: bibliometric study of international publications and their brands in the national field

Abstract

This study analyzes the development of academic research in the field of sign language interpretation, from 1990 to 2010. We adopted a bibliometric analysis of publications that discuss the interpretation of sign language and educational interpreting. The main purpose of this research was the survey and description of publications in international scientific journals how articulate these studies abroad with research on educational interpretation - EI in Brazil. To this end, we seek to make a crossing of international articles with references present in masters and doctoral researches in Brazil. We note that a very small number of researches make references to these articles on international EI indicating little articulation and debate with the scientific nonlocal published in journals.

Neiva Aquino Albres, Universidade Federal de São Carlos - UFSCAR

Professor Albres has a doctor’s degree in special education from Universidade Federal de São Carlos – UFSCAR (2010-2013); a master’s degree in education from Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS (2005); is a major in psychopedagogy from Universidade para o Desenvolvimento da Região do Pantanal – UNIDERP (2005). She has experience in LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language) teachers’ training, in the development of didactic material in such language (FENEIS/SP and Letras Libras – UFSC) and in the training of LIBRAS translators/interpreters in major courses, and in the teaching and pedagogic coordination at bilingual schools for deafs

Cristina Broglia Feitosa de Lacerda, Universidade Federal de São Carlos - UFSCAR

Lacerda has a graduate degree in speech and language therapy from Universidade de São Paulo (1984), a master’s degree in Education from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1992), and a doctor degree in Education from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1996). He is currently a professor at Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCAR) at the Graduate Course in Special Education and at the Postgraduate Programme in Special Education – PPGEEs. She has experience in the field of speech and language therapy, with an emphasis in deafness, and has acted in the educational field since 1996 with studies developed with the historic-cultural perspective and with the premises of the enunciative-discursive approach. She alsi advises municipal education centres for the founding and attendance of the Bilingual Inclusive Education Programme in Piracicaba, Campinas, São Paulo, and São Carlos. She is interested in researches on the acting of the educational interpreter in Sign Language. She has received a post-doctorate from the Italian Research Centre (CNR ROMA) in 2003, consults diverse fomenting agencies for the field of deafness, and coordinates the Postgraduate Programme in Special Education – PPGEEs
