Critical review of the work Poetics of children’s literature, by Zohar Shavit (Athens and London: The University of Georgia Press, 2009. 200p)
Zohar Shavit is a full professor at the School for Cultural Studies at Tel-Aviv University where she conducts research on semiotics and is the Chairperson of the Program in Research of Child and Youth Culture.Poetics of children’s literature (not yet translated in Brazil) is one among more than ten books authored by Shavit in which she examines the development of children's literature in the West under the perspective of polysystems theory, as it was postulated by Itamar Even-Zohar (1979). Shavit studies the foundation of a specific literary branch - children's literature - in its relation to the educational system and with the literary polysystem as a whole.
