In and out of sync rhythms of translation in performance and dance

This article focuses on questions of synchronization of movements; choreographies and performances as well as body techniques concerned with integration and disturbance issues (de-synchronization, “Out of Sync”). Starting from the current political and social questions raised by the crossing of borders and migration, the article relates the subject of “synchronization” to some considerations about translation and the interweaving of cultures of movement “to be translated”. Situations of “In and Out of Sync” – and the dynamics and rhythm of movement, finally presented as “rite de passage” between life and death – are analyzed upon examples of different dance performances, where diverging forms of body knowledge and techniques of movement are synchronized. The relevance of the time zone of “In between” and the intrusion (“L’Intrus” upon Jean Luc Nancy’s theory) with regard to des/synchronization is put up for discussion in the light of Susanne Kennedy’s Installation “Orfeo” (2015).References
