As traduções e as adaptações para o inglês de Ali Babá e os quarenta ladrões nos séculos XVIII e XIX

Resumo

Neste artigo, procura-se reconstituir a longa tradição editorial da fábula de Ali Babá e os quarenta ladrões, oriunda da coletânea árabe conhecida como Asmil e uma noites, com particular atenção às suas traduções e adaptações em língua inglesa realizadas nos séculos XVIII e XIX. Pretende-se descrever os diferentes procedimentos literários, tradutórios e editorais utilizados pelos agentes envolvidos na sua disseminação em países anglófonosdesde sua tradução indireta para o inglês, mediada pela versão francesa do orientalista Antoine Galland, no início do século XVIII, até suaadaptação nos diferentes formatos de chapbookspublicados durante todo o século XIX. 

Biografia do Autor

Daniel Padilha Pacheco da Costa, Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU)

Professor do curso de Tradução e do Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Literários e do curso de Tradução do Instituto de Letras e Linguística (ILEEL) da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU). Doutor pelo Departamento de Letras Modernas da USP (Programa de Estudos Linguísticos, Literários e Tradutológicos em Francês), com um estágio doutoral de um ano na Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV). Graduado em Filosofia pela Universidade de São Paulo e em Letras Francesas pela Université Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III), com especialização em Literatura Francesa. Integrante de grupos de pesquisa sobre tradução e antiguidade clássica.
