Abstract


Translated and adapted to the Brazilian reader public from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, the tales Sleeping Beauty in the Forest, Little Red Riding Hood, Blue Beard, The Boots Cat, The Fairies, Cinderella, Riquet of the Topete and The Little Thumb have recently won a new Brazilian edition that presents a complete translation of the work that became the canon of children's literature: Histories or Tales from the Time Past with Morals (Histoires or Contes du temps passé avec des Moralités) by Charles Perrault. In this interview with the translator, he seeks to know his work, his understanding of the work and the process of translation, and his proposals and strategies, especially in relation to these short stories, elaborated by the French writer of the XVII century with a characteristic that distinguishes them from others fairy tales: morality in verse at the end of the story told in prose.

Anna Olga Prudente de Oliveira and translator and researcher in the area of Translation Studies. FAPERJ Scholarship Note 10, is a PhD student in Language Studies at PUC-Rio, with a research project on translation of children's literature, entitled Histories of Old Time with Morals: a diachronic and synchronic analysis of the restructuring of Charles Perrault's work in Brazil. Master in Letters / Language Studies and Bachelor in Letters with Qualification in Translation from PUC-Rio. Bachelor of Arts in the Performing Arts of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). Member of the Editorial Board of Escrita Magazine (PUC-Rio). Member of ABRATES (Brazilian Association of Translators and Interpreters), ABRALIC (Brazilian Association of Comparative Literature) and EST (European Translation Studies Society). Eliana Bueno-Ribeiro holds a bachelor's degree and a degree in Literature (Portuguese-Portuguese Language Literature) from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Master's and PhD in Literature (Science of Literature) by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with post-doctorate in Comparative Literature at the University of Paris III - La Sorbonne Nouvelle. She is currently a research associate at the Afrânio Coutinho Studies Center at the Faculty of Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and was adjunct professor IV of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at that university. She was a guest lecturer at the Università di Roma La Sapienza, at the Université de Rennes 2 and at the Université de Toulouse Le Mirail. Member of the PEN Clube do Brasil. Awarded in the 3rd International Monograph Contest promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the essay "Graciliano Ramos: the reading of the world" (2011). She is the editor of Passages de Paris (Magazine of the Association of Brazilian Researchers and Students in Paris). Author of the works Tonico Pereira: An Improbable Actor - an unauthorized autobiography (São Paulo Official Applaud / Press, 2010) and Santo Antônio (Paulinas, 2012). He published an annotated and preface translation of the Tales of Perrault (Paulinas, 2016), which received the "Highly Recommended" (2017) seal from the National Foundation for Children and Youth Book. http://lattes.cnpq.br/708766531749262
