Objective: In an environment of growing uncertainty for the global mining sector, this study aimed to establish an organizational intelligence and surveillance procedure to foster strategic foresight and sustainability at the Empresa Geominera Centro in Cuba.
Methods: A mixed-methods approach was employed, using a purposive sampling of 25 key experts from the company. The diagnosis was conducted by applying a checklist based on the UNE 166006:2018 standard, and its findings were synthesized into a matrix that integrated internal and external factors to inform the procedure's design.
Results: The initial diagnosis revealed low compliance levels in critical areas such as source identification (28.6%) and the systematic dissemination of results, confirming the absence of a formal source inventory. The pilot implementation for the "Dolomita" project generated actionable intelligence that led to direct outcomes: a request from the Technical Directorate to redesign the project timeline and the solicitation of proposals from new technology suppliers.
Conclusion: The implementation of an organizational intelligence and surveillance procedure was shown to be a key tool for bridging the gap between the established scientific literature and operational reality. Its integration with the quality management system enhances the procedure's effectiveness and sustainability, although overcoming the reliance on manual processes through the future adoption of specialized software is recognized as a key challenge.
