Abstract


Objective: Analyze the performance of universities around the world regarding sustainability and scientific production based on the UI GreenMetric and THE Ranking.


Design?Methodology?Approach: The methodology adopted is characterized as descriptive, quantitative and documental, with an analysis of the period of the year 2021. The data collection was based on the universities belonging to the GreenMetric 2021 Ranking.


Results: Among the main results found, it is noteworthy that universities are making significant advances towards sustainable development. Moreover, certain institutions have sustainable practices and are references in scientific and academic production, especially in the European continent, because they are more representative in terms of the number of institutions. It is important that institutions stimulate competitiveness among themselves, in order to obtain better rankings, which favors institutions to have more visibility and the possibility of investments in teaching and research and impact of publications.


Originality?Value: The study provides a debate on the discussion of the criteria of both rankings, which can be important for the sustainable development of institutions, providing important theoretical and practical contributions.
