Behind the adaptation of the book Rota 66, The challenges of translation: now, in a special interview with journalist Caco Barcellos

This interview is an exclusive conversation with journalist Caco Barcellos about the behind-the-scenes process of adapting the reportage book Rota 66: a história da polícia que mata into the audiovisual series released on Globoplay in 2022. The material is part of a master's research project defended in the Graduate Program in Communication (PPGCOM-UFJF), which investigated the challenges of adapting reportage books to the audiovisual medium while preserving ethical commitments to the victims throughout this process. During the interview, authorized by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP-UFJF), Barcellos discussed his relationship with the team responsible for the adaptation, revealed his only veto – not turning the work in favor of the perpetrators – reflected on the boundaries between reality and fiction, and presented his perspective on the challenges of translating a journalistic investigation into a serialized audiovisual narrative.
