Abstract

This paper discusses issues related to the literacy process in the schools. The following topics are discussed: a) different meanings of literacy; b) text as the principal pedagogical tool; c) school literacy in a critical perspective; d) affective dimensions in teacher mediation; e) the collective work of teachers as a necessary condition in the school literacy process.
