A influência da atitude democrática ou autoritária dos pais sobre o sentimento de controle dos filhos

The present research was undertaken in order to know the influence exerced by parentes democratic-affective or authoritarian attitude over children feeling of control in everyday situations. The feeling of control was measured through one Liker type scale, involving seven control subscales: a)school; b) heterosexual relationship; c) relationship with the father; d) relationship with the mother; e) emotions; f) social relationship; and g) peisonal appearance. The parentes attitude was measured through adjectives (differential semantic method) wich describes the parents democratic or authoritarian rearing practices with their children. The research involved 1440 Mexican adolescents (from 14 to 19 years old) who studied in the High sc-ool of the Autonomous National University of México. The resoults revealed that parents democratic-affective attitude leads to both a significantly higher feeling of control and in a significantly greater number of everyday situations. The above mentioned resoults as well as other concerning children's autonomy or dependence are also discussed.
