The aim of this paper is to present the main results of the recent studies on algebraic thinking with children. We could say that although they have arisen many studies addressing the subject of algebraic thinking in recent years prevails the branch established by Blanton and Kaput (2008), which divides the algebraic thinking in two ways: the Generalized Arithmetic and functional thinking. The first is characterized by the generalization of the operations and the reasoning about the relationship between numbers. The second is characterized by the description of the numerical variation in right field. In addition to this division into strands, many papers also feature the idea that problems involving sequences and combinations to maximise the ability to think algebraically.Downloads
