Concept of polygons present in some textbooks of Mathematics of Elementary School

Abstract

This paper treats about the study of polygons present in some Mathematics Brazilian textbooks of Middle School. It focuses on the concept of polygons and its representations along these books, based on the theory of reading geometrically the diagrams. It is a qualitative nature of research. Initially an introduction is presented about the geometry in textbooks, and then theoretical aspects that underpin the analysis and methods used for its development. Among the results it is possible to highlight the need to neglect the existing definitions in textbooks and how they have been used in the course of these books, to avoid possible inconsistencies related to that content. What is discussed in this paper taking as focus the polygons can be extended to other mathematical concepts
