Abstract

In this paper I discuss the Philosophy of Mathematical Education from discussions about the nature of Philosophy, of Education and of Mathematics as disciplines, the mutual influence between them and their evolution along the cultural history of mankind. The analysis is made on the basis of a broad and holistic vision of knowledge and behavior of the human species over the course of its evolution. The starting point is the recognition of life as a phenomenon, characterized by strategies of action in response to the drive for survival, which determines the interaction between an individual, another individual and, by extension, society and nature, what is proper to all animal species, and the drive of transcendence, present only in the homo species, which leads to seek explanations for facts and phenomena and which gives rise to myths and their complex organizations , which are religions and science, in constant competition. From these general considerations I present my vision of what would be a Philosophy of Mathematics Education.
