Abstract

Often the technical and operational aspects of statistics are emphasized by the teacher, this fact does not contribute to the development of statistical literacy, understood as the ability to read, interpret and critically argue information. This article aims to discuss the development of statistical literacy in students of a technological higher education. The data collected are the audio recordings of the final presentation of the Mathematical Modeling works developed by the students. For the organization, interpretation, analysis and theorization of the material collected, the content analysis was used as methodology. The data pointed to the development of statistical literacy in the different stages of an investigation. With respect to the contributions of the methodological orientation of the Mathematical Modeling to the development of this competence, it can be affirmed that it was fundamental, since the statistical literacy occurs whewe find sense in the statistical information in diverse contexts and, for that reason, is in the form that the reader positions his reflections, analyzes and looks at the data as a means to know and decipher the context of the research and the Mathematical Modeling starting from an initial situation to arrive at a desired final situation requires a careful look at all the information.
