This paper uses the Model of Semantic Fields as a theoretical framework and aims to present and discuss different meanings for multiplication, to distinguish between street and school multiplication and bring some didactical aspects that can be taken into account when teachers are preparing yourselves to address classroom multiplication. For this purpose, were used the National Curriculum Parameters, the National Common Curricular Base, theorizations based on MSF and exemples of different situations envolving multiplication. From what is presented and discussed, it is expected to contribute to a broadening in the ways of meaning production of teachers when faced with the teaching of the theme of multiplication in Basic Education.
