This article presents an excerpt from a master's research that discusses algebraic reasoning in the Elementary Education. This excerpt specifically brings the analysis of the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) (National Common Curricular Base) of Mathematics for the Elementary Education about algebraic reasoning, having the studies of Blanton and Kaput as a theoretical reference. It is a qualitative documentary research, which was mainly based on relating the mathematical skills proposed in the document, to the categories of algebraic reasoning presented in the theoretical framework, analyzing the quantity, distribution and content of the skills related to each category. The analyzes showed that the document presents elements of algebraic reasoning in the Early Years, however, in addition to not covering all the categories proposed by the framework, it still presents an imbalance between the categories covered. Thus, the importance of the Elementary Education teachers to identify the potentials and limitations of the document is highlighted.
