Currently, almost all Brazilians, of adequate school age, are enrolled in Basic Education, despite the difficulty of reaching the goals established in High School. In this sense, the demand for licensed teachers in mathematics grows, whose problem in relation to the lack of training consistent with professional practice is historical in our country. The objective of this work is to present a current survey of the offer of places in the Mathematics Degree courses in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, bringing as reference some historical aspects that marked the constitution of the degrees in mathematics in Brazil. The research was carried out by collecting data on the Ministry of Education's e-MEC Platform, and quantitative analysis was used as a tool. We conclude that the annual vacancies for the Degrees courses in Mathematics in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in their majority, are offered by private institutions and, mainly, in distance courses. In addition, it was found that there are in process the extinction of some courses in the face-to-face modality, all in private higher education institutions.
