This paper tackles the references made to the translation of foreign books in Brazil and its connection with the formation and the consolidation of the Brazilian literary system, especially when it comes to the activity of both emerging and established Brazilian authors as translators and its impact on their own writing. Brazilian writings on literary criticism and literary historiography were examined in order to observe the aforementioned connections.
