The aim of this article is to present a translation of the poem “A Monteczuma” by the Cameroonian poet and theologian Engelbert Mveng (1930-1995) as well as contextualize two aspects of his theology that could be noted in the poem: the debate, on the one hand, on the inculturation of the Catholic message in the African context, on the other, the Christian ethics that Mveng pushes back to the understanding of African prayers as the cradle of a “transcendent and absolute” monotheism.References
