This article aims at discussing the National Schoolbook Program of the Ministry of Education of Brazil as far as the inclusion of dictionaries in this program is concerned. The principles and criteria used to select dictionaries to be used in public fundamental schools in Brazil are presented. Emphasis is given to the 2006 program, which innovates as it defines a typology for dictionaries to be used at schools. The typology is based on the adequate relation between the lexicographic conception of each kind of dictionary and the students’ learning phase. Such proposal confirms the pedagogical role of the dictionary and contributes to spread the concept of pedagogical lexicography in Brazil.Downloads
