Abstract

When in the late nineteenth centurywas celebrated for the first OlympicGames of the Modern Age and thecity of Athens hosted the competitionlittle was expected of an event thatbrought together hundreds of peoplewho practice sports as leisure-timeactivity and for no other purpose thanthe competition itself. Throughoutthe twentieth century the Olympicshave become a major cultural eventsof the planet and your organizationdemands the direct involvement ofpublic and private initiative. From amulticultural and multiethnic dreamto a one of the biggest business onthe planet the Olympics, the greatestachievement of the International Olympic Committee, became aninexhaustible source of reproductionof cultural values and projection ofsocial dynamics. This article proposesto discuss the Olympic values initiallytouted as identified in principle asuniversal ethical values, and the proposedOlympic education as a wayto rescue these values and reflectionon the direction the movement as awhole takes on a world marked bydifferences not only cultural but alsoeconomic and social.
